A Broke Student’s Guide

With the nice weather there are plenty of things to do! Pack a picnic and head to the park with some friends. Also, the bike trails in Pittsburgh are great! Just don’t forget your helmet! Enjoy the nice weather. Anyone have any suggestions of what else we can do outside to make the most out of a beautiful day?

A Broke Student’s Guide

If you have yet to try Razzy Fresh, I’m telling you, you are missing a piece of life. Razzy Fresh is a little frozen yogurt place in Pittsburgh. You walk in, and straight ahead is a wall filled with numerous fro-yo flavors. Grab a cup and start filling it up! After you’ve chosen all of your desired choices, head to the left for the topping bar. Razzy Fresh offers almost any topping you can think of, from Captain Crunch cereal to pieces of kiwi. You can add as much as you like!

The only thing to remember: the more you add to your cup, the heavier it’s going to get, and you pay by the weight. So you can make it as cheap as you want, or if you don’t mind paying, fill it up!

Visit their website at www.razzyfresh.com.

There are three locations in the city, and I’ve included the map below so you can easily find the one closest to you! Have fun and enjoy!

Cheers,

Abby

A Broke Student’s Guide

Because our Teen Writer! workshop is this Saturday, I’ve decided to focus this Broke Guide on something you all can do at home, rather than something that involves going out.

I know all of you writers must have a favorite book, so my suggestion to you is to stay in on a cold, blistering evening and read. Make yourself some hot chocolate, grab a blanket, curl up and relax.

My book of choice is always Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I am obsessed! I’ve read it 7 times, and I would read it 7 more in a heartbeat. Nights like this can be really nice, especially after a crazy week. Also, this suggestion costs you NOTHING! How great is that? I hope you all take my advice, and enjoy your evening of relaxation.

Oh, and don’t forget to let me know your book of choice!

Cheers,

Abby

A Broke Student’s Guide

This past Tuesday, my friends and I decided to go out for dinner. My roommate suggested Bar Louie at Station Square. I looked at her as if she was insane because Bar Louie is expensive, and hello, I’m broke. After catching my expression, she hurried to say that on Tuesday’s Bar Louie had $1 burgers with purchase of a drink. I instantly changed my expression and was one hundred percent for the suggestion.

Being my first time at Bar Louie, I was pleasantly surprised. The food was absolutely delicious, and our service was great. I ate a huge, greasy burger and drank an iced tea for just $5! Now that’s a deal!

This special is only offered on Tuesday’s, but it starts at 5 pm and goes until the restaurant closes.

To see their menu, check out www.barlouieamerica.com/home.

Cheers,

Abby

A Broke Student’s Guide
I’m a college student, so as you might expect, I’m always hungry. Most of these posts will be geared toward places to eat that are inexpensive, but delicious. My next suggestion for all of you broke kids is a restaurant in Market Square: NOLA on the square. Here’s the catch, you have to go between 5:00 – 7:00 PM any day between Monday and Friday. This is NOLA’s happy hour where they offer 50% off their flatbreads (which are literally the most amazing thing I’ve ever eaten), and they sell their gumbo for $1.00. If you drink water, you can eat for just $6.00.
NOLA is a New Orleans style restaurant. Their food may seem a little out of the ordinary for some. But trust me, your stomach will thank you for being adventurous.
NOLA also has live bands on every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday starting at 8:00 PM. Try sticking around after eating for some entertainment!
Remember: Monday through Friday, 5:00 – 7:00 PM

A Broke Student’s Guide

One of my favorite places to eat in Pittsburgh is a sandwich restaurant called Peppi’s. Almost no one has heard of it because when “Pittsburghers” think sandwich, their minds instantly shift to Primanti’s. But I’m telling you, Peppi’s is absolutely delicious, and it’s inexpensive. I especially like their cheese steak, which is under $6.00.

They have four locations: the North Side, Downtown, the Strip District and Point Breeze. This is a great way to fill up in between classes, or right before you head home…or just when you really need a huge, messy, dripping with goodness sandwich.

Check out their website here. Or find them on Facebook.

Cheers,

Abby

P.S. - Here’s a fun video for their signature Roethlisburger …
